We had a symbiotic life for almost twelve years and when I think of her, she left me seven years ago, I still feel a sensation that is a mixture of deep pain and tenderness, yet I smile when I remember her cheerfulness. She loved dancing and every time I made a waltz step she flew into my arms to dance with me.
Once
my husband and I were at the seaside in Ischia, our two oldest schnauzers always
came on holiday with us. We were having dinner in a typical restaurant on the
harbour where a little orchestra was playing Neapolitan songs, Blue
expressed her gratification joining her voice to the cheers and jumped to her
feet each time as if people were clapping at her, she made everybody laugh! This
is why we nicknamed her "Reginella" after the title of an old
Neapolitan song.
We
took Sir and Blue to the Blue Grotto in Capri too. The transfer from the large
boat by which we reached the cave and the small one that should take us inside
troubled the boatman quite a lot. The sea being rough, the entrance of the cave
was very low. The mariner warned us when we had to lower our heads but I had
just the time to bring Blue's head down since she was next to me and couldn't do
anything for poor Sir, who banged against the rock with his head but the proud
Schnauzer he was looked imperturbable.
Our
beautiful "Reginella" left us during a midsummer night, we were
driving home after taking her to a vet's who had raised our hopes. She was in my
arms, she nibbled at my fingers to say goodbye and flew away......
